Our ROETEST tube tester is a computer-based precision-measuring device.
It is aligned and CALIBRATED to full specifications on a regular basis, using a CALIBRATED Agilent Keysight 34450A 5+1/2 digits laboratory grade multimeter.
All voltages and currents are exactly in specifications, down to the least digit. Here we are talking of a few microvolts and microamps!! We believe that's the maximum accuracy a tube tester can have.
Test voltages are stabilized and regulated, and this belongs not just to the anode voltage and grid voltage, but to the filament voltage aswell. Compare with vintage and/or outdated tube testers.
All of our efforts are resulting in a tube test setup that can be considered as „State of the Art“.
Measurements are taken under datasheet conditions of the E88CC longlife tube. At Koschuh even the consumer versions (ECC88 and 6DJ8) have to show the LONGLIFE specifications.
This is where it get's interesting FOR YOU: The whole testing process is automated, there is no way to cheat.

Our measuring process is completely automated, using the wonderful ROETEST tube tester (explained above). Whilst the tube is working under fixed and stabilized datasheet conditions, the operator has NO abilities to trick or cheat in any way. Exactly after 300 seconds of operation, a whole bunch of measurements are taken on the first triode (info: the ECC88 / 6DJ8 consists of two independent triodes). After another 300 seconds, the second triode is tested within the same procedure. It takes us a total of more than 600 seconds (!!!) to test only one single ECC88 tube. This is a very time consuming process. But it gives you the most convincing test results, expert data you can rely on. Also, you can reconstruct all of our measurements, by using the same type of measuring procedure. Or simply by using a fully aligned ROETEST - as we do.

Do not trust vintage test equipment if it's not fully aligned and CALIBRATED. As an example, we have had 6 years of experience on an OLD Funke W19S tube tester ourselfes. We decided that this oldtimer is pretty much outdated nowadays, even though it was recently serviced and aligned, and running on a re-built AC mains voltage (220V +/-0.1%). We later found out that it gave us random test results. This problem belongs to many other OLD test equipments. Also, many tube sellers test after a much shorter preperation / heat-up time. Probably (but most likeley) these test results are less reliable than our PC-based measurements with stable voltages and fixed testing times. Also, consider the vast majority of OLD tube testers to be vulnerable on many different points: In example, if the AC mains voltage gains or drops just a little bit, it will greatly affect the anode current (as the Funke W19 did, unfortunately, hence we used a AC lines regulator, which did not solve all problems either). Unregulated filament voltage as often seen on vintage test equipment will result in less or more electron emission, depending on the drops and gains of the AC mains voltage, or other variables. Unstable and heat-dependent anode voltage is also commonly seen on old tube testers. And their analog instruments are sometimes unprecise. The needle of the instrument sometimes rest in different positions from time to time under same test figurea. Un-documented since human "read-out" allows cheats and "errors". Exzessive heat in old test equipment, altering components, old soldering joints, bad contacts on switches AND sometimes the tube sockets aswell. Well, old tube testers are nice to have, but the (sometimes) don't give you proper measuring results. This can ruine your day.All of this can be avoided, by using the ROETEST, as we do. So you can really buy with confidence.

Matching: You can either choose one of our "matched pairs / quads" (if any), or you can "select" tubes on your own, from our list below. You can pick any tubes from one (or different) batches. It's your choice. It's your safing aswell. Focus on the criteria that is most important to you: i.e. anode current, production codes, balanced systems,.. you name it.

How much anode current has a new ECC88?: There is no clear answer. Datasheet says 15mA, but that's just a figure. From our long term experience, new old stock (NOS) ECC88 tubes - out of the box - can have ANY anode current ("emission") ranging from 10mA to 20mA. We have literally unboxed hundreds of new ECC88/E88CC tubes, and none of them had 15.00mA. Some had 8mA, and some had 22mA, and yes, some were "dead" aswell. Really, it's that disappointing in real life. And "balanced systems" (whereas both triodes have the same current), do practically not exist when "out of the box". So there is no clear answer on your question above. 15mA is something you can rely on. But if a tube has 10mA it is most likely fine too. New tubes often have disappointing test results (like an excessively used tube), and used tubes sometimes test "as strong as a new one". What's best for YOU? It all depends on your application. For audio purpose you should go for a NOS-like tube, and that's atleast 10mA of anode current or higher. This is very important: From our own experience with high end tube audio equipment, the highest "emission", closest "match" and awesome "balance" doesn't always give the best sound. It also depends on construction details, and the schematic. If the anode current is too high, your audio gear can produce distortions. If the anode current is too little (typically less than 6mA), it may sound "noisy" or distorted too. That's why we don't offer tubes with abnormal high or low anode current. If you need tubes with odd anode currents, please contact us (but please do not ask for faulty ECC-tubes, as we mechanically destroy them, in order to prevent third parties to cheat with such tubes, or entirely ruining the reputation of used tubes).

Learn more about unfair anode current cheating methods: Suspicious sellers may tweak ANY faulty/weak ECC88 to show a NOS-like anode current of 10mA or higher. Simply by „accidentially“ raising the anode voltage (from 90.0V to an any higher voltage), or by raising the grid voltage (from -1.20V up to +0.00 volt), or by raising the filament voltage (from 6.30 Volt to 7V or 8V). By using either one of these cheating methods, you can get „very high test results“ like 20mA or 25mA - even with faulty tubes. But that's stupid. Be careful whenever you see „unexpected high“ measurement results from other sellers, without explaining the data to you. You are really interested in the test conditions, like the anode voltage AND the grid voltage (ideally these voltages are at data sheet parameters, see fig. below). If either one of these specifications was missing, the complete measurement is suspicios, and so is probably the tube and it's seller. Even worse, some sellers advertise ALL of their tubes with 25mA or more (even though such high test results are very rare and unusual, even on new tubes). They are selling all of their tubes as „ultra strong“. Compared with tubes from serious sellers like us, it seems like those 25mA-tubes are „the only valid solution for high end audio“, even though they may test 6mA only, under real-life datasheet conditions. Unexperienced buyers might think that every ECC88 should have 25mA, but that's totally wrong. Don't fall into the trap. Of course, high numbers look great on the paper. But they are impractical and absolutely useless. If operated under such extreme conditions (25mA or higher), the tube will be useless after a short period of time. Also, these „test results“ are not comparable with real-life audio circuitry conditions. Keep in mind that our test results are taken exactly at the data sheet parameters: 90V anode voltage and -1.2V grid voltage. As given by the big names of the tube industry, like SIEMENS. Our test results do not show the maximum anode current that our tubes „could“ deliver (under extreme conditions), because that's not the point. Of course, our tubes will test 25mA or higher (50mA), with stupid „alignments“. But again, don't get fooled. Don't go for the maximum anode current. Go for the electron emission under datasheet-conditions, as we do, because that's something you can really work with. From our point of view, this is the only reputable data. All of our ECC88 & 6DJ8 tubes (and longlife versions aswell) are tested under the official E88CC datatsheet parameters, using automated test equipment, with no chance for the operator to cheat in any way.
